Shenandoah Valley Economic Education, Inc. was founded in the early
1970s to promote teaching about economics and the free enterprise
system in the central Shenandoah Valley. It was originally known as the
"Free Enterprise Assistance Association," but the name was changed to
reflect a mission broader than free enterprise education.
Today its mission is to promote economic literacy in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. SVEE provides the funding necessary to put a full-time teacher consultant in the field to help promote economic literacy. The teacher outreach program of the James Madison University Center for Economic Education is funded by SVEE. Without SVEE's help, economic education in our area would consist only of on-campus offerings at JMU. Stephanne S. Byrd of Harrisonburg currently serves SVEE as Chairman of the Board. SVEE is governed by a board representing local business and community interests. Back to the index |
